Neurodiversity encompasses the variety of
brain
and behavioral differences among
individuals, inclusive of developmental
disabilities and differences and mental health
experiences. To be neurodiversity-affirming
means to accept, celebrate, and support
everyone, embracing their unique
neurobiological makeup.

Neurodivergent individuals are unique and
important just as they are, with nothing that
needs fixing or curing. Neurodiversity is a
beautiful and
natural part of our world that
deserves to be celebrated. As a community, we
have the opportunity to
uplift and support
neurodivergent individuals, enriching our
shared experience.

Professional Development for Educators

“The passion [Breea] had when sharing this information was so contagious. I really want to reframe my summaries and my reports moving forward.”

“Breea’s presentation really
challenged me to reflect on how I
am evaluating neurodivergent
children.”

“The IEP goal examples were very helpful. I
have already started incorporating some of
the language she discussed and am having
these conversations with other school
colleagues.”

“Excellent introduction and overview of
the Neurodiversity Affirming
Movement without being
overwhelming.”

“Very thought provoking and great reminders for things I
know but don’t always implement consistently if at all. These
are all ideas and practices I aspire to use in my practice. Loved
that you shared both quick, immediate changes and those that
may take a bit more work and intention.”

“The presenter was very knowledgeable
with all the information to help us to
learned and see how to support the
child’s needs and wants.”

Breea provides professional development for educators, school psychologists, and

Psychoeducational
Evaluations
(CA only)

A neurodiversity-affirming evaluation focuses on
recognizing and building upon a person's
strengths,
considering their unique context, and providing
practical support. Unlike traditional evaluations that
often emphasize weaknesses, this approach seeks to
understand and enhance the individual's natural
abilities. It looks at the broader picture, including
cultural, social, and environmental factors, to offer a
more comprehensive view. The goal is to
empower
individuals by helping them use their strengths to
address challenges and work towards their goals. This
supportive method encourages personal growth and
resilience while
respecting the principles of
neurodiversity.

Benefits of a Neurodiversity Affirming
Psychoeducational Evaluation:

  • Looking beyond the weaknesses and
    deficits of the child

  • Empowers the child and others to see
their unique strengths and how to leverage
    them

  • Uncovers support needs that can be
    advocated for

  • Focuses specifically on educational
    supports

  • Evaluation through the lens of both a
    DSM-5 diagnosis and California
    Educational Code (IEP) eligibility categories

  • Can be used to inform IEP and 504
    decisions and recommendations

  • Specific, actionable recommendations that
focus on the child’s unique learning
    profile
